OUR BACKGROUND

The Centre for Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases (CTTBD) was established by the African Union as a self-financing Trust to assist with the management of ticks and tick-borne diseases in the region. Initially, it was called the Vaccine Production Centre (VPC) but was renamed the Centre for Ticks and Tick-borne Diseases in 1994. We have been in operation for more than 40 years, conducting research, training, manufacturing and selling animal vaccines.
We are located in Lilongwe, Malawi, and our assets include office space, animal facilities, state of the art laboratories and a production plant covering an area of 16.48 hectares. We also have a farm measuring 20.24 hectares where animals for vaccine production are kept and some of the feed produced. Our main source of income is through the sale of affordable, good quality, safe and efficacious East Coast Fever Vaccines. We also offer a range of complementary services and products including training in epidemiology and diagnostic techniques for tick-borne diseases (TBDs), back up services to vaccines against TBDs and demand driven research on Tick Borne Diseases.
