CTTBD AT THE NATIONAL LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT POLICY LAUNCH


The National Livestock Development Policy (NLDP) of Malawi 2021 – 2026 was officially launched by the Minister of Agriculture, Honorable Lobin LOWE, MP at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Malawi, on 29th January 2022. The event was held under the theme A Vibrant Livestock Industry: Game-Changer towards Sustainable and Commercially led Agriculture Sector.”

The Policy stipulates the vision for the development of the Livestock sector in Malawi over the next five years (2021-2026). The main goal of the NLDP is to achieve transformation of the Livestock sector to effectively contribute to agricultural output for improved household livelihoods, economic growth and export trade within the context of a sustainable environment and natural resource management.

The Minister of Agriculture inspected the exhibition pavilion before officially launching the NLDP. Several key stakeholders in the Livestock sector in Malawi including CTTBD were represented at this monumental event. The Minister and other government officials were briefed on the services and animal products that the CTTBD offers.

The National Livestock Development Policy has nine priority areas of which two key areas directly fall within the core mandate of the CTTBD:

  1. Livestock Research, Innovation, and Technology Development and Dissemination
  2. Livestock sector Institutional development, coordination and capacity building.

CTTBD anticipates that the NLDP will foster more collaboration between the institution and the Malawi Government to meet some of the Policy objectives and attain the Policy goal by 2026.
